Pump maintenance for hydroelectric power plants

In a power plant, a stopped pump is never just a stopped pump: drainage, dewatering and cooling systems protect machines whose downtime is measured in megawatts. Hydro Pumps was born serving the power sector — and masters what is most specific to it: large vertical pumps, discontinued equipment and maintenance windows that cannot slip.

Typical Applications

A power plant's pumping systems

From pit drainage to service water, each auxiliary system has its criticality — and its pumps.

01

Drainage and dewatering

Vertical and submersible pumps keeping pits and galleries dry — the powerhouse's last line of defense against flooding.

02

Bearing and generator cooling

Cooling water circuits whose failure overheats bearings and forces a unit shutdown — reliability is everything.

03

Service water

Auxiliary systems feeding seals, heat exchangers and plant utilities — continuous operation, year round.

04

Gate and regulation pumps

Auxiliary hydraulic systems for gate operation and level regulation.

05

Fire fighting

Pumps that must work in the one hour they cannot fail — maintenance with documented testing.

06

Legacy equipment

Pumps with decades of operation, extinct manufacturers or discontinued lines — the classic reverse engineering case.

How We Serve

Why power plants trust critical pumps to Hydro Pumps

Specialists in the fleet's size and age

Brazil's hydroelectric fleet is decades old — and so are its pumps. Much of the equipment we service no longer has an active manufacturer, an available drawing or catalog spare parts. Our reverse engineering solves exactly that: we measure the part, rebuild the drawing and manufacture in material equal or superior to the original.

Large vertical turbine pumps — the most common in plant drainage and intake — are our specialty: disassembly, recovery of columns, shafts and bowls, assembly balancing and in-plant erection with documented alignment.

The outage window is a commitment, not an estimate

Power plant maintenance happens inside windows negotiated with operations — delay means unit unavailability. We work with prior inspection, a work plan closed before the outage and critical parts in hand before disassembly.

For emergencies — pit flooding, cooling failure — the 24h assistance puts a field crew at the plant with the urgency operations demand, in any region of Brazil.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions from plant operators

Yes — it is one of the most frequent cases in power plants. We reverse engineer from the part itself: dimensional measurement, drawing reconstruction and manufacture in equal or superior material. Each equipment's history is documented for future interventions.

That is the standard of our service to the sector: inspection before the window, work plan and critical parts secured before disassembly, crew sized for the deadline. The schedule commitment is treated as a contract requirement, not an internal target.

Yes — vertical turbine pumps are our specialty: complete disassembly, recovery of columns, line shafts and bowl assemblies, balancing and in-plant erection with dimensional and alignment reports.

Every intervention ships with a technical report: inspection with photographic record, dimensionals of recovered parts, balancing certificate with G2.5 residual and test reports. The documentation meets internal audits and the sector's maintenance requirements.
